Funerals
Funerals
We are here to support you when someone you love dies.
At a time of loss, we understand how important it is to be listened to, supported and helped through the practical arrangements of saying goodbye.
A Church of England funeral can take place in one of our churches, at a crematorium, cemetery or graveside. One of our ministers will meet with you and help you plan a service that gives thanks for the life of the person you love, provides space for grief and reflection, and offers the Christian hope we have in Jesus Christ.
Together, we can help you choose appropriate Bible readings, prayers, hymns or music and tributes that reflect the person whose life you are remembering.
Arranging a funeral
Your Funeral Director will normally contact us to arrange the funeral, but you are also very welcome to contact the Benefice directly.
We can also help with burials and the interment of ashes in our churchyards, subject to the relevant churchyard regulations.
You do not have to face bereavement alone. We are here to listen, pray and walk alongside you before, during and after the funeral.
Burials and interment of ashes
Our churchyards are places of remembrance, prayer and Christian hope.
We can help families arrange the burial of a loved one or the interment of cremated remains (ashes) in one of our churchyards, subject to the relevant Church of England and local churchyard regulations.
If you are considering an interment, please contact us before making arrangements. One of our clergy will help you understand what is possible, arrange a suitable date and time, and talk with you about the short Christian service that accompanies the interment.
We can also provide guidance about memorials, headstones and inscriptions and any permissions that may be required.
Whether the interment follows soon after a funeral or takes place some time later, we will be glad to support you and your family as you remember your loved one and entrust them to God’s care.
