Getting married in one of our churches

Congratulations on your engagement!

We would be delighted to explore celebrating your wedding with you in one of the four churches of our Benefice: St Mary's Highley, St Mary's Billingsley, St Bartholomew’s Glazeley with Deuxhill and St Peter’s Chelmarsh.

A church wedding is a joyful and significant occasion. In the presence of God, and surrounded by family and friends, you will make promises to love and be faithful to one another as you begin married life together.

Can we get married here?

There are certain legal requirements about who can marry in a Church of England church, usually through living in the parish or having a recognised connection with the church or parish.

Please don’t worry about working this out before contacting us. Get in touch and we will be happy to talk through your circumstances with you.

Your journey to your wedding day

Once you contact us, we will guide you through the process. This will normally include:

  • an initial conversation about your wedding and eligibility;
  • confirming the church and proposed date;
  • meeting with the priest and preparing for marriage;
  • arranging the legal requirements, including banns where appropriate;
  • planning your wedding service together, including readings, prayers and music; and
  • a rehearsal before the wedding where appropriate.

We want the preparation to be about more than organising a ceremony. It is an opportunity to think together about the promises you will make and the life you are preparing to share.

Banns of Marriage

If you live within one of our parishes but are getting married in another Church of England church, you may need your Banns of Marriage called here.

Please complete our Banns Enquiry Form, and we will contact you about the next steps.

Wedding fees

Church of England wedding fees are set nationally each year, with additional charges sometimes applying for items such as musicians, bells, heating or other local arrangements. Local extras can include verger assistance, organist services, sound system, heating, flowers and bell ringing.

We will explain the relevant costs clearly as part of your enquiry.
